Let Us Give Thanks
November 2011
by Rev. Bob Hoffman
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18).
This is the month in which we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday here in America. It is a sad state of affairs, however, because I dare say that for the majority of people, thanking God has been reduced to a short, meaningless, mockery of a prayer before the Thanksgiving meal. Throughout the rest of the year, most people spend their time indulging in the flesh and living in sin. I’m sure that you have seen it yourself. It is tragically true that for multitudes of people, God is not in their thoughts; and they don’t utter one prayer of thankfulness throughout the whole year! What hypocrisy!
It’s wonderful that our forefathers set aside a special day for our nation to give thanks to God for all of our blessings...and it’s a good thing they did because if it was left up to this generation, I’m afraid we would have no Thanksgiving Day at all. Millions have drifted so far away from the Lord that they would never think of having a day set aside to thank our Creator, Provider and Savior.
Not everyone is following that broad way that leads to destruction, thank the Lord. God still has His devout people who make it a daily practice to praise Him, to thank Him and to honor Him; and I pray that you are one of them. Sadly, however, for too many people, Thanksgiving Day has become nothing more than an excuse to eat large quantities of food, to drink alcohol and watch sports on television. Can this be pleasing to God? A day set aside in all sincerity and reverence to honor God for all of His blessings has been ruined and turned into a day that honors the devil more than God. This is a shame and a disgrace to our nation.
Let us who call ourselves Christians resist these ways of the world and give God the honor due Him this Thanksgiving season. We can have a joyful feast on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate the blessings of God; but let us also make the day a feast of praise, of dining on the good Word of God, of worshipping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and of doing His holy will. Then let it be not one day but every day that we live in the spirit of gratitude to our Lord.
To repeat the scripture: In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18).
The Word of God, as declared in the above scripture, tells that we are to give thanks and praise God in everything.
• In every situation, let us give thanks, for we know that all things will work for our good if we love the Lord with our whole heart.
• Let us give thanks every day and in every way.
• Let us praise Him for being our Redeemer.
• Let us thank Him for supplying all of our needs.
• Let us glorify Him for shedding His blood for us, for loving us, for forgiving us of all of our sins and for healing us of all of our diseases.
• Let us shout, “Hallelujah!” to the Lord for being a very present help in time of trouble.
• Let us adore Him for giving us the Holy Spirit to be our comforter, our teacher and our guide.
Oh, give the Lord thanks today, tomorrow and every day for His love for you. Let this Thanksgiving month be the greatest month of praise in your life to your Lord.
Is He your Savior, your friend, your Lord and your soon coming King? If so, then give Him thanks today. If not, He wants to be. He has been good to you, Sinner Friend. He has made His sun to shine upon you. He has given you food to eat, air to breath and thousands of other blessings even though you have sinned against Him. Why don’t you receive Him as your Savior and Lord today? Why don’t you repent of your ungodly ways and live according to the Word of God? Why don’t you find the happiness that God intends for you? If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from the judgment that will fall upon all hypocrites and ungodly people, come to Jesus today. Click here to say a prayer with Rev. Angley that will change your life forever.
Oh, thank God that Jesus saves! He is the same yesterday, today and forever! Thank God that He heals! You can receive a miracle or a healing today if you’ll just reach out and believe God.
Brothers and Sisters, we have so much to be thankful for that it will take eternity to thank God for all that He has done for us. It’s no wonder that the angels praise Him continually. Let’s join the angels this Thanksgiving by praising Him with hearts that are pure and holy and free from all sin.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day,
Rev. Bob Hoffman
